Bernal Heights
A village on a hill.
Bernal Heights wraps around a grassy hilltop with one of the best views in the city. The neighborhood is tight-knit, a little bohemian and full of character.

What it is like
Cortland Avenue is the neighborhood’s main street, with a library, a market, bakeries and restaurants where people know each other by name.
Steep streets and stairways lead up to Bernal Hill, where dog walkers and runners watch the sunset over the city.
The homes
Cottages, Victorians and modern rebuilds, often on narrow lots with gardens. Téa sold a Bernal home here, from permit questions to paint colors.
